New York State Community Forum in NYC
This Council is conducting community forums to hear comments that will help us develop the New York State Comprehensive Plan on Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementias in the Community. Forums will allow caregivers, individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, family members, health and social services providers and other community members the opportunity to share stories and experiences about caring for and providing services to this population.

New Program Will Have Mail Carriers Looking Out
For Elderly
In partnership with the United States Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Department for the Aging and the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities launched Carrier Alert. This voluntary preventive program enhances a letters carriers ability to respond when a senior or person with disability may be in distress.

Go Direct Campaign Helps People Sign Up for Direct Deposit
Switching to direct deposit is a small but important way that people who get Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks can improve their lives. And it just takes a few minutes to sign up. DFTA is partnering with Go Direct - a campaign sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Banks to inform people who receive federal benefits about the advantages of direct deposit and help them sign up for it.

Two Parents With Alzheimer's Raises Child's Risk
If both parents have Alzheimer's disease, their children face an increased risk of developing the condition, a new study suggests. Overall, 42 percent of offspring whose parents both had Alzheimer's went on to develop the disease themselves by age 70, the researchers found.
