This section provides information to help physicians and care professionals meet the challenges of caring for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and their families. Although research has yielded important insights about key biological changes involved in Alzheimer's, the fundamental causes of the disease remain unknown and therapeutic strategies remain limited. Part of the challenge of Alzheimer care arises from the need to address the disease's impact on the caregiver as well as its effects on the individual with Alzheimer's.

The Alzheimer's Association is committed to helping professionals treat, guide, and support affected individuals and their loved ones by offering professional-level information and resources as well as by providing programs and services to enhance quality of life for those who live with the disease. The Association also advocates before legislative bodies and in other public forums on Alzheimer-related issues, including the need for more equitable coverage and reimbursement of dementia-related professional care.
