I'm very pleased to begin this column by reporting
that we closed FY07 (July 1 - June 30) at $5.8 million.
I want to thank all of you who helped to make this
another successful year. The pie chart below illustrates
the sources of funding and demonstrates the importance
of donor support.
Fiscal Year 2007 Funding Sources $5.8 MILLION
I would like to take this opportunity to highlight several
major gifts we received this year. First, I would like to
offer a very special thank you to our board member Jeffrey
Tucker and his wife Melanie for their help in launching
our Capacity Building program by naming our new
Board Room/Conference Center in honor of Melanie’s
father, Norman Schneider. The Tucker’s very generous
gift is an invaluable financial resource, helping to build our
capacity and strengthen and grow our programs.
The Caccappolo Family Foundation has generously
underwritten the initial photography exhibition at our
new headquarters. Many of you who have visited our
new offices have commented on the beautiful black and
white photography exhibit by Annie Levy. These photographs,
which are on loan to us, are located above our
mission statement in the welcome area across from the
elevators. The new exhibition to be installed in October
will be portraits of the people we serve by the same
noted photographer. We wish to thank Susan and Jerry
Caccappolo for their meaningful donation made in honor
of Susan’s mother, Marilu Ratajac.
Our good friends in the corporate sector also played a
key role in our success this year. Forest Pharmaceuticals,
Inc. supported several programs and events including our
2007 “Forget-Me-Not” Gala, the expansion of our
Family Caregiver Workshop program, and the summer
issue of our quarterly Newsletter. Eisai Inc. and Pfizer
Inc., in addition to their longstanding leadership role in
Memory Walk, supported our 2007 Gala and are generously
underwriting programs in our Early Stage Services.
Ortho-McNeil Neurologics, Inc. continues to support a
variety of programs and events, including our annual
Early Stage Forum, African-American Outreach program,
Memory Walk and Gala. And Myriad Pharmaceuticals,
Inc., is our partner in our ongoing series of Arts &
Alzheimer’s events designed to broaden public awareness
of Alzheimer’s through the arts. They are underwriting
“Demolition Derby: when a mind loses its license to
drive,” a dance-theater performance to be held on
November 2 (see cover for more information). Myriad is
also the sponsor of this Newsletter issue.
We also wish to acknowledge several of our major
foundation supporters: The Starr Foundation continues
to be a significant supporter for both general operations
and Safe Return outreach; the Independence Community
Foundation for helping us to expand our services in
the Brooklyn community; FJC for its ongoing and generous
support of our Emergency/Special Assistance Fund;
the Leo & Julia Forchheimer Foundation; and the Charles
and Mildred Schnurmacher Foundation, a new friend.
The Chapter’s annual “Forget-Me-Not” Gala, which
this year raised close to $1.3 million, and our Memory
Walk (please save the date of Sunday, October 21 for our
2007 Walk) help to support the day-to-day operations of
the Chapter.
In closing, I wish to acknowledge the many generous
donors to our spring Emergency Assistance Fund that
ended on June 30th, and in particular, the individual who
gave $25,000 and who wishes to remain anonymous.
Please see page 38 for a listing of donors $100 and over
to this special campaign.
Building our base of support through donations large
and small, bequests through estate plans, support from
foundations and corporations, and contributions from
you—this is what makes our work possible. Thank you all.
