The Chapter’s 24-hour Helpline, 800-272-3900, is available 24/7 to
serve the dementia community, with translation services available in 140
languages. The Helpline staff is comprised of professionals and a team of
volunteers, many of whom are former caregivers. The professional staff
consists of Matt Kudish, Director of Helpline & Care Consultation; Janet
Mitchell, Helpline Manager; and Maggie Marra, Helpline Associate. Our
volunteer team includes Anneros Valensi, Barbara Ellen Brooks, Carol
Sard, Elinor Gipfel, Ellen Lieber, Harriet Schimel, Jane Lithgow, Jean
Geater, Joan Fried, Lore Wallach, Phyllis Solomon, and Manola Schrier.
In addition, volunteer Lorraine Zuckerman counsels families regarding
insurance coverage issues. She is available to meet with families by
appointment at the Chapter office.
The Helpline staff provides information, referrals and support to family
members, professional caregivers and persons with dementia (PWD). The Helpline serves as a gateway to Chapter
programs and services. We are equipped to answer questions pertaining to caregiver stress, dementia care, research and
clinical trails, referrals to professional services and information regarding upcoming educational meetings. We are always
willing to lend an ear to caregivers and PWDs who just need to talk. There is never an issue too small or large for our staff
to address, therefore do not hesitate to reach out to the Helpline for assistance. Remember that caregiving can sometimes
be overwhelming and lonely, and each of us needs support during this challenging time. The Helpline is here for you.
