City-Wide Immigrant Caregiver Program

Since 2004, JASA’s City-Wide Immigrant Caregiver Program has been assisting immigrant caregivers who are caring for a person who is 60 years of age or older living in the five boroughs. JASA’s City-Wide Immigrant Caregiver Program professional staff is culturally sensitive and speaks Spanish, Russian and Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese).

JASA’s City-Wide Immigrant Caregiver Program provides:

  • Information and assistance
  • Referrals to appropriate resources
  • Emergency short-term (Respite) home care
  • Supportive counseling
  • Accessing eligibility for entitlements
  • Supplementals (personal care items, medical equipment, medications, utility bills, etc.).

To be eligible for JASA’s City-Wide Immigrant Caregiver Program emergency short-term home care and supplemental services, the person receiving care must have a cognitive impairment and/or need assistance with at least two of the following: bathing, toileting, dressing, eating and transferring.

If the individual is eligible for emergency short-term home care and supplementals, these services are provided at no cost. Supplemental services include but are not limited to a one-time financial assistance to help with payment of rent arrears, utility arrears, purchase of personal care items, purchase of medical supplies, reimbursement for transportation or other caregiver-related expenses.

JASA’s City-Wide Immigrant Caregiver Program is funded by the U.S. Administration on Aging, National Family Caregiver Support Program through the NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA).
