The Junior Committee of the NYC Chapter held its 4th annual gala on April 27, this year dubbed the “Aqua Ball.” The event, co-chaired by Christina Shepard and Meghann McKale, was held at BLVD on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, and attracted a record crowd of over 250 attendees. The JC is proud to boast that the Aqua Ball was its most financially successful gala to date, with many thanks to its first ever corporate sponsor, L&K Partners, and its first ever honorary chair, actress Soleil Moon Frye.

Level “Aquatinis” and “Forget- Me-Nots” flowed as guests mingled and checked out the incredible silent auction, which included such unique items as a private tour of ESPN’s “campus” in Bristol, Ct; tickets to a Weinstein Co. movie premiere; original artwork; membership in the Guggenheim Museum’s Young Collectors Council, and more.

Midway through the evening, Chapter President & CEO, Lou-Ellen Barkan, and JC President, Sam Martini, made touching remarks reminding everyone that their common cause in attending the Aqua Ball was their interest in finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, and in supporting Chapter programs and services for those already affected in our NYC community.

A number of JC members - all of whom are volunteers - made significant contributions to the success of the Aqua Ball: Monica Larsen, head of decor, and her team of Anne Cutshall and Maren Harrison; Samantha Kane and Jessica Levine, gift bag committee; Rob Wollin and Abby Lawler, silent auction committee; Ryan Miller, head of alcohol sponsorship; Scott Coopersmith and Kim Karpf, public relations; and Drew Skelton, corporate sponsorship. The JC is also very proud of the Special Assistance Fund that its hard work has helped to make a reality. To date, the Fund has provided about $4,500 in emergency assistance, with even more monies allocated to families affected by AD throughout NYC.

The JC looks forward to using funds raised through its Gala and Memory Walk 2006 to further support AD research and the Chapter’s many valuable initiatives.

If you would like to lend your talents and enthusiasm to Junior Committee activities, please contact Christy Johnson, chapter relations chairwoman, at christy_johnson@post.com for information on membership
