Volunteer Recognition 2007

On Monday, April 30, the NYC Chapter hosted its 2007 Volunteer Recognition Day at Lincoln Center— a fun-filled, fabulous Broadway cabaret “Meet the Artist” program and cocktail reception. It was a sparkling evening of Broadway music with top-notch performances by Judy McLane, currently starring as Tanya in Mamma Mia! and Eric Kincaid, who, in the role of Skimbleshanks “the railway cat,”was a key player in the longest running Broadway hit Cats.

We feasted on hearty appetizers and drank a little wine—a tasty prelude to a beautiful, heartfelt volunteer recognition ceremony that honored our top volunteers, each representing one of our core programs and services. It was our special way of saying thank you to our 500+ volunteers for their outstanding community service and extraordinary contributions to our NYC community. The event offered volunteers an opportunity to mingle with fellow NYC Chapter volunteers. It was a time to share stories, laugh, cry, sing and honor those who work so hard to make a difference.

With the sun setting over the Hudson River and a beautiful Lincoln Center penthouse view, volunteers enjoyed their time together—an evening of gratitude and kudos.

From Top: Eric Kincaid, Lou-Ellen Barkan & Judy McLane. Volunteer honoree Tami Schneider, Women in Action Chair with husband and Board member Rick, son Casey and daughter Brady. Volunteers Lee Hunkins, Lally Moore & Lynn Feldman.

Volunteer honoree Carol Karasick, Corporate Speakers Bureau, accepting her award as Sherri Partridge, Director of Volunteer Leadership & Development looks on.
Volunteer honoree Meghann McKale,
Junior Committee President, with proud parents and
friend Christina Shepard, Junior Committee Vice President.

Volunteer News

We are thrilled to report that, in response to a growing need for information and resources about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, we launched our first Corporate Speakers Bureau “Lunch & Learn” presentation at Ernst & Young at the end of February. To date, we have made presentations at Time, Inc., Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC, KPMG LLP, and Lehman Brothers.

The presentation is specifically designed for corporate employees who may have a parent, a grandparent, aunt or uncle, spouse or loved one who is experiencing memory loss. The Corporate Speakers Bureau members— all volunteers—help employees deal with what can seem like insurmountable challenges and obstacles to leading a balanced life while caring for another.

The Corporate Speakers Bureau presentation addresses issues that affect employees in the workplace. Through corporate human resources, health & wellness, and work life initiative programs, we are able to provide much needed employee support. If you, or somebody you know, are interested in having a Corporate Speakers Bureau presentation at your corporation/company, please contact me at 646.744.2928 or spartridge@alznyc.org.
