2008 Annual Chapter Meeting
“Nature vs. Nurture:
The Role of Genetics in
Alzheimer’s Research”
On Wednesday, September 17, the NYC Chapter
will bring together an impressive panel of scientists
to discuss the link between genetics and
Alzheimer’s disease at our Annual Meeting. Held at The
Rockefeller University on Manhattan’s East Side, the
event attracts a large audience including members of the
scientific, healthcare and social service communities, as
well as individuals with dementia, their caregivers, loved
ones and friends.
The program will include presentations and a panel
discussion by three scientists, each representing a
different approach to the problem of treating and curing
Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
The panelists will be Robert Green, MD, MPH,
Co-Director, Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical & Research
Program, Professor of Neurology, Genetics and
Epidemiology, Boston University; Richard Mayheux,
MD, Professor of Neurology, Psychiatry and
Epidemiology, Co-Director,Taub Institute for Research
on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain, Columbia
University; and Peter St. George-Hyslop, Professor of
Experimental Neuroscience, University of Cambridge
and Professor of Medicine, University of Toronto.
Elemer Piros, PhD, Senior Biotechnology Analyst from
Rodman and Renshaw will moderate the discussion and
question and answer period.
“We’re very proud to bring together three worldrenowned
researchers in a unique forum who help us
better understand the complexities of the genetic link to
dementia,” said Lou-Ellen Barkan, Chapter President
and CEO. “This is an evening not to be missed. I
encourage anyone interested in the science of
Alzheimer’s and the search for a cure to register for what,
I know, will be a fascinating and informative evening.”
A special cocktail reception will follow the program
and give attendees an opportunity to meet the scientists.
The Annual Meeting is free of charge. For more
information on how to register, please contact Karen
