“Forget-Me-Not” Gala: A Homerun
O n June 1st 400 New Yorkers stepped up to the plate and packed the ballroom of
The Pierre for the Chapter’s annual “Forget-Me-Not” Gala. The Gala was chaired
by Board member Anne McBride
Schreiber and her husband, Jordan Schreiber,
and raised $900,000 to support the Chapter’s
programs and services.
Emmy and Tony Award-winner David
Hyde Pierce, a tireless advocate, emceed and
Yankee Manager Joe Girardi was honored
with the Chapter’s “Community Leadership”
Award. Girardi’s father, Jerry, is affl icted
with Alzheimer’s and Joe has become a
respected national voice in the Alzheimer’s
community. Pitching superstar David Cone
was on hand to accept the award for Girardi,
who was in Cleveland coaching the team to
a 5-2 victory over the Indians. The Yankee
organization generously produced a series
of public service announcements featuring
Girardi and other marquee Yankees, which
can be seen on the YES Network.
The Chapter’s “Creative Leadership” Award was presented to celebrated 3-D pop artist
Charles Fazzino, whose father and grandmother both suff ered from Alzheimer’s. Charles created
the Offi cial 20th Annual Memory Walk Commemorative Poster as well as Gala artwork.
Special recognition was given to Frank J. Bisignano, Chief
Administrative Offi cer at JPMorgan Chase. In honor of Frank’s
recent marriage, nine of his colleagues chose the New York City
Chapter as the recipient of a special grant in memory of Frank’s
father, Albert Bisignano. In recognition, the Chapter’s Helpline
has been named the “Albert H. Bisignano Helpline.”
Many of the city’s leading research scientists and clinicians
enjoyed the evening thanks to the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene
L. Kasakove, who underwrote our Community Partners Table.
The evening included a cocktail reception, silent auction,
dinner, and dancing. Among the very special auction items were
a “Meet & Greet with Joe Girardi” and a Private Yacht Cruise
with David Hyde Pierce. The “Women In Action” Auction
Committee, headed by Karen Fisch and Sara Foster, acquired
a record number of donated items which generated $85,000.
David Hyde Pierce was again our live auctioneer, selling “shares”
in the Chapter’s “Special Emergency Assistance Fund” — and
Gala attendees raised their hands to make this, like the event
itself, a terrific success.
