T he results of our 2009 year-end appeal
are encouraging. As of this writing, we
raised over $350,000, an increase of 40% over
2008. To counter-balance the effects of the
economy, we have worked to diversify our
fundraising stream. Our highly successful
first-time effort in the ING New York City
Marathon, spearheaded by our own Junior
Committee, raised over $356,000.
I would like to recognize some of our
foundation and corporate friends for their
support of special programs. The Helen
Hoffritz Charitable Trust’s new grant
is directed to our Emergency/Special
Assistance Fund; Forest Laboratories,
Inc. helped launch our Family Caregiver
Workshops and is now supporting a
new endeavor — our Family Caregiver
Guide — designed to rapidly expand the
numbers of caregivers accessing valuable
information. Look for the launch of the
Guide in the summer 2010 newsletter.
Eisai Inc. and Pfizer Inc. are supporting
our Family Caregiver Workshops in both
English and Spanish. And with the support
of The Altman Foundation we are able to
not only expand our 50-hour Dementia
Home Care Training Program, but have
hired an evaluator to measure the program’s
effectiveness.
Please read the donor profile on Adelle Kleiman-Levine and her
husband Ira. Adelle had been a long-distance
caregiver for her mother, and was
helped by the Chapter many years ago. Ira,
whose lifelong dream was to record a CD
from the American Songbook, found the
ideal way to give back to the Chapter for the
help Adelle received. Their inspiring story
reinforces the important role the Chapter
plays in the lives of caregivers.
As always, we thank you for your
support. We could not do our work without
you. Please contact me at (646) 744-2905
or cberne@alz.org if you would like
further information.
