ABOUT OUR SUPPORT GROUPS
The Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter sponsors support groups for caregivers and people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease at many locations and at no charge.
We attempt to keep our directory up-to-date, but groups do change. For the most current information and to discuss any concern, call or email Wendy Panken, LCSW, Support Group Manager at 646.744.2917 or WPanken@alznyc.org.
Before joining a group, we highly recommend you:
- Attend an Understand Dementia Meeting. Call the
24 hour HELPLINE at 800-272-3900 to sign–up for a
meeting
- Call the support group leader and schedule a personal interview. This gives you an opportunity to ask questions
to be sure the group is right for you.
- Select only one group and attend 3 meetings before deciding if it is right for you.
USING THIS DIRECTORY
Caregiver Support Groups are listed by general location in each borough. Many of our groups are co-sponsored with other organizations. This is indicated by an asterisk (*).
When you are looking for a group, look at the letter next to each group. This tells you the group’s composition: spouses & partners = (S), adult children = (C), daughters = (D) and all caregivers = (M).
A generic group is for all caregivers taking care of family members with any long term disabling disease including Alzheimer’s disease.
Early stage groups, telephone support groups, grief and bereavement groups, Spanish and bilingual groups are listed at the end of this directory.
(M)= all, (S)= Spouses, (C)= adult children, (D)= daughters
*= Co-sponsored by organization or institution
